Corruption in BD edu lessened

DHAKA: Transparency International (TI) in their report said the corruption in education sector in Bangladesh decreased.

In a press conference on Tuesday, executive director of Transparency International, Bangladesh (TIB) Iftekharuzzaman presented the report titled ‘Global Corruption Report: Education’ at Mahakhali BRAC Centre Inn in the city.

The report said that 12 percent of the people of Bangladesh have the experience of paying bribe to educational institutions or education affairs whereas the global rate is 17 percent.

In India, the rate is 48 percent, the most corrupted country of the world in the sector.

The report also said that Bangladesh looses Tk 70.3 crore ($9m) in primary education for petty corruption. Only Maldivians pay fewer bribes in education affairs in South Asia.

Praising that the corruption decreased in the Bangladesh educational sector, he also urged people to be more aware than growing complacent.

He also praised the incumbent education minister for his achievements in this connection.
